In our industry, every moment matters — from the way a guest is greeted, to the care behind an event to the teamwork that brings unforgettable experiences to life. Yet behind these standout moments are people, businesses and practices that often go unseen.

And that’s exactly what we at the Explore Hospitality Industry Talent Council want to highlight.

Who we are

The Explore Hospitality Council is a group of passionate industry leaders and educators committed to supporting and elevating the five core sectors of hospitality: Food & Beverage, Lodging, Transportation, Entertainment & Recreation and Event Planning across West Michigan. Together, these sectors make up the heartbeat of the hospitality industry. We bring together voices from across the field to develop projects and initiatives that:

• Promote and elevate the industry and its diverse career pathways through career fairs, classroom presentations and more.

• Support and develop training and professional development opportunities, such as our upcoming event planning apprenticeship.

• Strengthen retention strategies through events such as Workplace Wellbeing Summits and Lunch & Learn Series to help keep talented individuals in the industry.

  
  

Our work centers on collaboration, advocacy and celebrating the businesses, professionals and practices that make hospitality one of the top industries here in West Michigan.

What to expect

The mission of this blog is simple: to showcase the people and experiences that make hospitality special. We’ll be focusing on four key areas:

1. Sharing industry best practices

   We can learn so much from one another. By exploring strategies and programs that work well — and those that don’t — we can help strengthen operations and elevate the guest experience across all sectors.

2. Highlighting exceptional businesses

   Across West Michigan, many organizations embody what true hospitality looks like. We’ll spotlight those who consistently put guests first and lead with excellence.

3. Celebrating the people who make the magic happen

   Hospitality is built on human connections. We’ll recognize the employees whose passion, creativity and care bring memorable experiences to life every day.

4. Capturing “only in hospitality” moments

   Some moments simply can’t happen anywhere else. Those unexpected, heart-filled, unforgettable stories deserve to be shared — and we’re here to tell them.
